There are many great semi-hollow bodied guitars on the market today but few have as rich of a rich heritage as the Rickenbacker 330. It’s an all maple body with a reinforced maple neck, complete with 24 frets, rosewood fingerboard and Rickenbacker designed single coil pickups.

Features
The neck on the 330 is a dual-trussrod design that Rickenbacker has developed. The long scale maple neck is topped with 24 jumbo frets that sit on top of a rich cherry rosewood fretboard. Mother of pearly inlays are in a dot design, which are simple but do the trick nicely.

Maple sides, back and top are constructed in a semi-hollow fashion with a typical sound hole on the top of the guitar. The 330 is equipped with an adjustable bridge and the stop-piece is fastened to the end of the guitar. Two single coil pickups sit in the bridge and neck position and have full height adjustment. The deep dual-cutaway design of the body makes it effortless to reach the highest frets for high note finger work.

Sound
Once plugged in, it was apparent that the Rickenbacker 330 was a very bright and clear sounding guitar. Country and bluegrass were easy genres of music to nail perfectly and with the tone turned down slightly on the pickups and the gain turned up on the amp, a perfect blues overdriven tone came out of the Fender amp the guitar was tested on.

Reliability
There has been a 330 model in the studio with us for over 4 years and all of the electronics are still in perfect working condition with no shorting or crackling whatsoever. The body is in good condition with the finish only showing slight signs of wear through much use. No twists, bends or cracks have emerged on the neck and this can be attributed to the reinforced design.

Final Words
The model we have has been more than awesome for the needs of the studio and the touring that it sees. The Rickenbacker 330 is one of those guitar instruments that sounds and looks fantastic and is built with such high quality that it needs no serious maintenance and stands up to the elements. It would be replaced with another in an instant should it go missing or be damaged.
