After spending many years being a fairly secretive and taboo subject, cosmetic surgery has now been fully accepted as an everyday part of life. People these days are happy to admit to having procedures done, and they are usually more than happy to recommend those procedures to their family and friends. The resulting boom in popularity has led to many cosmetic surgeons not only redesigning their old procedures but also developing completely new ones in order to give their clients the best and most effective treatment that they possibly can.

A great example of this is with the popular procedure of liposuction – for years this was the surgery of choice for anyone wanting to rid their body of areas of fatty deposits, and the procedure didn’t change much at all. Over time, though, to increase patient satisfaction the procedure was fine tuned into liposculpture. The two surgeries are much the same – the patient is sedated with a general anaesthetic, incisions are made into the body, and fat is suctioned away – but from here liposculpture includes and extra stage. Before the incisions are closed the surgeon sculpts the fatty layer that remains in the body, so that it follows the contours of the underlying muscle that it’s sat on. This leaves the patient with a much more natural look and feel.

This sort of fine tuning may have increased patient satisfaction, but to increase patient numbers the cosmetic surgery industry has had to look for ways that they could entice some of the people who wouldn’t usually consider cosmetic surgery that certain procedures could actually work for them.  Sticking with liposuction as an example, many people would like to benefit from the effects but without having to put themselves though the procedure itself – every surgical procedure includes a certain amount of risk, and whether it’s through a problem with the anaesthetic, a complication with the procedure, or an infection that sets in afterwards there are many things that can go wrong.

By devising non invasive liposuction, people are now able to benefit from liposuction without having to put up with many of the negative aspects. During this treatment, the surgeon uses a heat producing laser to melt the fat through the skin – the melted fat is then able to be flushed naturally through the body as waste material. The recovery time is dramatically reduced, and it’s become such a routine procedure that many people are able to book in for a treatment at lunchtime and then go straight back to work in the afternoon.

So by moving with the times the cosmetic surgery industry has ensured itself of a busy and prosperous future. People will always want to look good and improve their appearance, and if they can do this with the minimum amount of fuss and effort on their behalf, the better.
