Janome is a leader in producing sewing machines for the home quilter. There are many different models and categories to consider when purchasing a Janome sewing machine. The 1600 Professional Series and the Embroidery and Sewing Series are two popular styles of machines with several different models available. The Quilter's Companion Series features the MC4900QC and the MO200QC. The 4900 is a computerized machine that contains 534 stitches and allows the sewer to create and save fifty custom stitches. It has a maximum sewing speed of 820 stitches per minute, dual krypton lights, stitch editing, two storage compartments, a simplified threading system, and ten on-screen languages.
The MO200, designed by Marie Osmond, features an automatic straight stitch needle plate, memorized stitch combinations, mirrored editing, 201 built in stitches, a programmable up/down button, one hand needle threader, built in thread cutter, and like the 4900, it also contains dual krypton lights and ten on-screen languages. Another category is the Threadbanger Series and contains the TB30. This machine features thirty stitches, six buttonholes, direct stitch buttons, a programmable up/down button, slow or fast needle settings, pressure adjustment levels, and stitch elongation.
The Jem Platinum Series contains the Jem 760 and the AQS2009. The 760 also weighs only twelve pounds. It features sixty stitches with five one-step buttonholes, stretch stitch adjustment, thread tension control, a horizontal spool spin, and a carrying handle, making it perfect for traveling. The AQS (American Quilter's Society) 2009 features 20 stitches with two one-step buttonholes, a horizontal full rotary hook, thread cutter, start/stop button, and thread tension control. This model also is lightweight and comes with a carrying handle.
The Professional Quilting Series contains the MC6600P and the MC6500P. Both offer an automatic thread cutter, superior feed system, memorized up/down needle, built in needle threader, and a maximum speed of 1,000 stitches per minute. The 6600 is a bit more advanced with the addition of the AcuFeed system, which makes sure that sewing and quilting stay smooth and even with any kind of fabric. The 6600 also has 150 stitches, while the 6500 has 137.
The 1600 Professional Series includes the 1600P-QC and the 1600P-DBX. The QC features 1,600 stitches per minute, which is the fastest out of any machine so far, an extra-wide work area, variable speed control, and an automatic thread cutter. The DBX also features 1,600 stitches per minute and an automatic thread cutter, but also offers a "liquid response" system foot control which eliminates stalling.
The Embroidery and Sewing Series contains the MC11K Special Edition, the MC9700, and the MC9500. The Jem Gold 3 Series contains just the Jem Gold 3. This machine only weighs twelve pounds and features twelve stitches with four one-step button holes and a one hand thread cutter. It also comes with a free quilting kit.
The Janome Company has many good quality sewing machines to use for quilting. You may want to consider Janome sewing machines if you are an avid quilter.
