Trainee roustabout vacancies exist simply because the demand for roustabouts exceeds the demand. Oil companies always need roustabouts. As there is a shortage of these skills on the market, many of them prefer to train young, inexperienced people to fill this need. Even with the various internal training programs available, the demand is still not met as existing roustabouts move on to other positions, or leave the industry altogether due to the ardeous nature of the working environment.

Working on an oil rig can be extremely challenging, but I doubt that many people would term it fun. Exposed to the elements and being cooped up on the platform for extended periods of time might seem as an adventure at first, but, in the long term, there are not that many that choose this as a permanent way of life. The upside of this situation is that the pay is generally very good and oil companies look for people without experience or qualifications. This creates an opportunity for youngsters in very tough economic conditions and provides a change for them to enter into the job market.

There are a number of employment agencies that specialize in servicing the oil rig market. As such, they would know the requirements and processes needed to apply for trainee roustabout vacancies. They would also know exactly which outfits were hiring at any given moment. Using such a specialized agency would greatly increase your chances of landing that position. as long as oil remains our major source of energy, this sector of industry will continue to go strong in spite of bad economic times globally. Although being a roustabout might not be your dream, it does certainly hold an opportunity for you to earn an income and make your own way in this world.
